We (group of 6 friends) were in Mumbai and were looking for a nearby get away for 2 days. One of us knew about Kashid, we searched more. Kashid looked good to serve both our scenic and adventure desires (:D), and so we decided on it.
The best time to visit Kashid is from October to February.
Distance : Kashid is about a 4.5 hrs journey from Mumbai or Pune by car. Since one of us could drive (thankfully!) we rented a car using Zoomcar.
Duration : We started our journey on 9th of February, 2019, early morning and reached back Mumbai on 11th of February, 2019 afternoon. Since we saw a lot of beaches, it took us some more time, you can reduce on them.
Cost : The trip cost us approximately 8000 INR per person.
Day 1
We started early from Powai (Mumbai) at 6:30 am and reached Kashid around 11:30 am. The moment we entered this place, we knew we had made the right decision. Kashid was scenic enough, just at the first sight!
In the afternoon we headed for Korlai Fort, a Portuguese fortification. On the way, we saw a beautiful rock beach gazing at us, we had to stop!
The walk to the Korlai fort is worth remembering. This is where exactly the land ends and the sea starts.
One can take the stairs or climb the fort (as they feel like ! ). Four of us took the stairs (2 of us were wearing shoes, so they felt more adventurous and decided to climb! 😀 ).
When the sun falls on the sea, on the fort and then when the sun sets, you gotta take all of it. :).
Since this fort is the last thing in the land, there is provision for understanding some sea navigation techniques by paying some extra bucks.
The Korlai beach is just below the fort. This is also a rocky beach. You gotta be careful here because rock beaches could be slippery or otherwise you could end up getting a cut in your leg like I did !
Day 2
The next morning we headed for the Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary. The journey to the sanctuary is quite curvy and scenic but we couldn’t trace much inside the sanctuary in that sunny day. After absorbing the silence in the wildlife and the chirping of the birds, we headed for our next destination.
The next destination was the infamous Murud Janjira Fort. This fort is made on an oval shaped rock and is considered to be one of the strongest marine forts in India. It houses the 3rd largest cannon in India. Since this place is a popular attraction among tourists it is better to save about 4 hours for it.
The remains of the residing spaces (for different sects of a community), public places etc. could be traced inside the fort. It also houses a big pond. The entrance had been designed to be untraceable beyond a certain distance, there are secret openings, inspite of being placed on the roof the cannons remain cool enough to be touched…etc. These and many other fort-wonders. Murud Janjira Fort is definitely a beautiful memoir of the engineering marvels of the by-gone ages.
Then after somehow getting our way out of the Murud Janjira Fort we rushed for water-sports before it gets dark and also because one of us would not have smiled until the water sports were done (:D). We were aiming for Kashid beach but since Murud beach was nearer, we tried our luck there and voila!
We managed to finish para-sailing, jet skiing, banana boat riding and finally bumper riding too before the sun set! The view of the sunset in the backdrop and one of my friend jet-skiing made for one of the best scenes of the day.
Day 3
The next day we left our hotel at 7 am. We stopped in the Kashid beach and then (forget the hurt leg ! ) who could stop us from riding a horse !
Our next stop was Alibaug beach, where we took a stroll, brought some beach food and then with all the cherished memories sealed, we left for Mumbai!
